The Puddle

A puddle

Of stagnant water

Reflected a face that

I did not recognize

Anymore

I always questioned

Life after death

In these moments

But that can wait

At least for today

The puddle

Reflected my image

But my soul

Remained hidden

Hidden from everyone

I splashed the pond

Over and over

Until all the water dispersed

And my shoes were soaked

And my socks drenched

I stood there looking down

Smiling

At the empty crevice left

When it started to rain

And I cursed God

And ran away

As the rain pummeled me

But I laughed,

And I was happy
